Client
Breitener Energética.

Location
Fortaleza, State of Ceara, Brazil.

Period
2002-2003.

Brazil went through a serious energy crisis in the year 2001. This crisis occurred due to an unfavourable hydroelectric situation and to a lack of natural resources to provide energy. It was clear evidence of the great imbalance existing between the supply and the demand of energy in that country, and the need to expand the supply of energy in the short term.
Skanska was selected and hired under a BOT framework in order to develop all the facilities of a plant of diesel generators. The contract included financing, design, procurement, construction, start up and, finally, operation and maintenance of the facilities. The capacity installed is 166 MW. The project was executed in record time and with zero time-loss accidents.
